Lyme Regis
I was a bit obsessed with Mary Anning and the town of Lyme Regis in England after reading Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. For our anniversary, Mark surprised me by using frequent flyer miles to take us there! Despite cold rainy weather, and often very little hot water in the tiny places where we stayed, it was one of the most meaningful trips we’ve taken, feeling the history of the places where she lived and walked, and the much deeper history of life millions of years ago. This could be our favorite place in the world.

The Lyme Regis Museum was built on the site of Mary Anning’s home. The highlight of the trip was going on a fossil walk, led by Chris of the Museum, AMAZING.
Norfolk Coast
Next stop was to the coast of Norfolk, where we had done our first house swap long ago with the kids. Rough seas at West Runton!
The Hunstanton cliffs show a sequence of changing depositional conditions that span roughly from the end of the Early Cretaceous and the Late Cretaceous period; about 108 - 99 million years ago.
The base is red-brown carstone laid down in shallow marine conditions, and the two layers of red and white chalk were laid down in deep marine conditions.
